Civil Aviation Administration of China: Power banks without 3C certification or recalled models banned on domestic flights

To ensure the safety of aviation operations, the Civil Aviation Administration of China has issued an urgent notice. Starting June 28, passengers are prohibited from carrying power banks that lack a 3C certification label, have unclear 3C labeling, or belong to recalled models or batches on domestic flights. (For details, please visit the official website of the State Administration for Market Regulation's Defective Product Recall Technical Center at www.samrdprc.org.cn/xfpzh/xfpgnzh)

Pudong Airport and Hongqiao Airport will enforce the requirements of this notice to ensure passenger safety. We kindly ask all passengers to comply with this notice by carefully checking the certification label, brand, and model of your power banks before traveling. In the first quarter of 2026, Shanghai's Pudong and Hongqiao airports reported stable growth in key transport metrics. Flight numbers reached 212,000, passenger volume reached 34.36 million and cargo throughput was 1.112 million metric tons, marking year-on-year increases of 2.9 percent, 6 percent, and 10.5 percent, respectively.

Passenger traffic was strong, driven by the continued expansion of China's visa-free policies. Inbound and outbound passenger numbers hit 10.31 million, representing a 6.1 percent increase from the same period last year. Shanghai Pudong International Airport's transfer rate was 17.6 percent in January and February.

Freight performance also grew, driven by cross-border e-commerce demand. Cargo and mail throughput reached 938,000 tons, a 12.5 percent year-on-year increase, supporting exports from Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta region.

Shanghai's airports are continuing to strengthen their position as an international aviation hub. In response to increasing demand, new routes are poised to be introduced and flight frequencies to key destinations will be increased.

During the 2026 summer-autumn season (March 29 to Oct 24), Shanghai will launch flights to Kolkata, India, and Tbilisi, Georgia, while increasing services to Venice, Italy, Istanbul, Turkiye, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Hanoi, Vietnam, Singapore, Bangkok, Thailand, Jeju, South Korea and Almaty, Kazakhstan.

This expansion aims to enhance global connectivity and improve passenger services. Shanghai is positioning itself as a world-class aviation hub to offer superior travel experiences and support business growth.
