Pudong and Hongqiao airports serve nearly 1,500 disabled passengers monthly. Recently, Shanghai airports have improved accessibility features, focusing on facilities and services to meet the needs of disabled travelers, ensuring attentive and inclusive service.

Convenient booking and comprehensive services

Disabled passengers can easily book services like wheelchair assistance, priority check-in, and expedited security through the Shanghai Airport Authority (AVINEX) WeChat mini-program, the 021-96990 hotline, or inquiry counters. Services are available for unaccompanied travelers over 60, pregnant women, parents with infants, and those needing special assistance.

Upgraded accessible facilities

AVINEX continues to enhance its accessibility, with 193 elevators, 287 accessible restrooms, and 250 parking spaces across both Pudong and Hongqiao airports.

Seamless boarding and transfers

To ensure smooth boarding, the airport follows a "close bridge whenever possible" policy, using specialized vehicles with non-slip ramps when needed. Pudong Airport has also created Love Channels for seamless transfers with ground transport, helping over 1,200 passengers this year. Hongqiao partners with the high-speed rail and metro to offer smoother connections, assisting 5,200 passengers in 2025.

Heartfelt security and efficient services

With 13 dedicated security lanes for disabled passengers, the airports offer low-position verification desks, private care rooms, and prosthetic limb scanners. Visually impaired travelers can bring guide dogs through security. Optimized signage and Love Channels at taxi stands prioritize disabled passengers, ensuring quick assistance.

Continuous feedback and service improvement

Shanghai airports regularly seek feedback from the Disabled Persons' Federation and other organizations, helping them to refine services. Ongoing staff training ensures high-quality, empathetic services, creating an inclusive environment for all travelers.
