What you should know about entering and leaving Hongqiao airport
Date:2020-04-30

As the positive momentum in China's epidemic response is being consolidated and work and production are gradually getting back to normal levels, the passenger flow of domestic flights in Shanghai's two airports is gradually rising.
Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is accordingly stepping up efforts to ensure a safer environment for passengers.
Smart security checks and physical partitions to reduce interpersonal contacts
The self-service check-in kiosks at Hongqiao airport greatly reduce interpersonal contacts by nearly 80 percent.
Hongqiao airport provides self-service verification kiosks in its T1 and T2 terminals that greatly reduce interpersonal contacts. Passengers holding second-generation ID card can complete document verification without face-to-face contact with security staffs. Children or those who hold other valid identity documents should go through the manual check counters which are all installed with protective transparent acrylic boards to avoid droplet transmission and cross infection. At present, nearly 80 percent of the channels at the airport are self-serve.

Precautions against people gathering with passenger flow prediction and careful reminders
Hongqiao airport has strengthened communication and coordination with airlines. It established a direct communication mechanism and a notification system to report next day flights, paying close attention to flight schedules and changes in passenger flow, which influences passenger pre-judgment and makes it easier for staff to boost efficiency. It also reduces passengers' waiting time.
In addition, Hongqiao airport prepared a number of bilingual safety reminders in the waiting area to remind passengers to avoid gathering and honor social distancing guidelines, remaining at least one meter from other people.
In the event of multiple passengers needing to unpack luggage for security checks at the same time, Hongqiao airport also makes full use of its space advantages to help passengers keep one-meter distance apart, reducing the risk of close contact between them.

Strengthening protection for both passengers and staffs
Hongqiao has strengthened protective materials equipment and disinfection procedures in security inspection areas. At present, all on-site staffs have to wear masks and those who need to contact passengers are urged to carry out self-protection measures including wearing gloves, hats, and eyewear. Other efforts to prevent and control the epidemic include body temperature monitoring and disinfecting all work and rest areas. All the check-in counters at the airport have hand sanitizers available for passengers. The staffs at the manual counters for security inspection and unpacking of luggage disinfect their hands every ten minutes to provide a safer environment for passengers.
